Reading Readiness Screening Tool

The Reading Readiness Screening Tool (RRST) is part of the Learning Disabilities of Alberta’s Right to Read project. The vision of the Right to Read project is that every child in Kindergarten and Grade 1 will be screened for possible risk of reading problems. Students deemed to be at risk will receive appropriate and timely intervention.

The RRST is the tool created by the Learning Disabilities Association of Alberta to support universal screening. The RRST suite of materials will be released within Alberta without charge with the condition that school staff and school districts who will be using the tool receive professional development to support its effective application. The LDAA has partnered with the CanLearn Centre|Calgary Learning Centre in Calgary to provide this professional development.

The professional development is being offered in a variety of different ways, including on-site workshops, videoconferencing, and online webcasts. A fee, to cover costs, will be charged. The professional development is structured to provide ongoing support through the development of a community of learners. Follow-up online consultation sessions will also be available. Check back for upcoming dates.
